Buddy

  • Breed: Paint/ Quarter Horse
  • DOB: 1989
  • Sex: Gelding

Buddy is “Mr. Trustworthy”. He is always prepared and willing to do any lesson. Buddy is the horse to teach manners to the youngsters. Before Buddy came to us, he was the Paint /Quarter Horse Western Pleasure Champion. Buddy is a proud and a gentle teddy bear. One thing Buddy won at Morning Glory Ranch was the 2006 Top Hand Princess for Kristin, one of the many students at MGR.

One afternoon, Mitchell was taking buddy for a ride through a crop field. Well when Mitchell turned buddy around, buddy started to run home because he knew where he was going and there was no one pulling back on him. When Kim, Mitchell's mom saw this she jumped on a horse and took off after buddy. When Kim reached Mitchell and Buddy she yelled to Mitchell to pick the reins. When Mitchell just touched the reins Buddy immediately came to a stop.

Cha Cha

  • Breed: Registered American Paint Horse
  • DOB: Feb 2005
  • Sex: Filly

Cha Cha is the laziest two year old who seems like she is going on 30 years old because she is so lazy! She has just recently been started and is already working in our therapy program. She is super trustworthy as a lesson horse because she is so lazy. Cha Cha is also the 2006 Montgomery County Fair winner of the Halter Showmanship.

In May of 2007 the Morning Glory Ranch trainers went to go look at five horses. There was one horse that stood out to us that was in the round pen. Amanda, one of the MGR trainers took the filly to work her and the first thing the filly did was kick up her heals as if to say yeah I'm so happy. The little filly did this one more time going the other direction as if to say the same thing. Never once was the kicking out taken as a threat. Everyone agreed at the filly would be a great help in lessons when she was trained. On the way back to the ranch the little filly was named Cha Cha because of her happily kicking up her heals.

Cheyenne

  • Breed: Paint/ Quarter Horse
  • DOB: 1994
  • Sex: Mare

“Big Momma” is Kim's personal horse who is kind of skittish. She is not very personable and not a great riding horse, but when it comes to at risk kids, she is an awesome horse. She helps the kids work out their problems. Cheyenne is used mainly for ground work because her instincts are so primitive due to having an abusive life before Kim got her for Morning Glory Ranch. Cheyenne and Hank (another MGR horse) are “married” they always hang around each other and even sometimes eat together. Cheyenne is known as “Big Momma” because she is the mother of two of the horses at Morning Glory Ranch.

One morning in Wharton , Texas everything was normal for Kim Mack and her daughter Kaydee. That is until they saw all the horses were not in the pasture. So Kim and Kaydee went looking and found all the horses down the road with Cheyenne just circling one horses that was lying on the ground. That horse lying down was her first born, Morning Glory. Cheyenne was making sure that the hurt horse did not try to stand up until someone came to help. When Kim and Kaydee got there they had to pull Cheyenne away so they could see what was wrong. Cheyenne lead the other horses back to the ranch and waited for two weeks until she could see Morning Glory again.

Coco Butter

  • Breed: Quarter Horse
  • DOB: Jan 2005
  • Sex: Filly

Coco is our second foal born and raised on the ranch. She has just recently been trained by two of Morning Glory Ranches trainers. Coco is already in action in the therapy lessons and camps. She loves attention and seeks lovin'. She is a laid-back filly who will do most anything you ask of her. Coco is very trustworthy and has never tried to do anything wrong. When Coco is tied at the hitching post with other horses, she will chew and pull on the other horses lead ropes and sets them free. Coco is Dusty's partner in crime and is very nosy. Butter is suck a cow horse that she likes to herd our dogs when they are in the way.

Coco Butters daddy is all cow horse. So when is comes to herding something just let Coco lose. Several months ago the ranch dogs were always trying to chase the horses and barking at them. Well I think Coco had had enough of the dogs and decided that she was going to chase them. This turned into herding and now can get the dogs where she wants them. Coco will herd them away from the other horses as if to protect them.

Dusty

  • Breed: Registered American Paint Horse
  • DOB: 1998
  • Sex: Gelding

Dusty is “Mr. Mischievous/trouble”. This horse is incredibly intelligent; he finds a way to get into anything and everything. When there is a manure pile left on the wheelchair ramp, we always know it's from Dusty. When we are outside working, Dusty is always the first one to peak around the barn and come investigate what we are doing. When he is tied at the hitching post with the other horses, he is always picking and playing with them. Due to Dusty's curiosity he is always getting hurt or picked on by the other horses.

Morning Glory

  • Breed: Paint/ Quarter Horse
  • DOB: Jan 2002
  • Sex: Mare

Morning Glory is our lazy, spoiled brat out at the ranch. She is Kim's first foal raised on the ranch. Glory had a horrible accident two year ago when she and the other horses got out and she ended up going through a barb wire fence, almost severing three of her legs. After extensive surgery and major therapy she was able to live the life of a normal horse again. Due to her being babied by Kim through her recovery, she now has this attitude that she is the Queen and is entitled to do nothing. Glory has been known to kick out in protest to do nothing during lessons or while being ridden.

Hank

  • Breed: Quarter Horse
  • DOB: 1997
  • Sex: Gelding

Hankers is a good ole boy. He is the companion to Cheyenne and is Buddy's right hand man. He was a Polo Cross and ranch horse before being donated to us. He is very loveable, and very willing to work. Hank is very laid back and such a lady's man, all the mares love him.

Cindy is a student at Morning Glory Ranch that started on Hank. Hank was the only horse to really completely gain her trust. When Cindy started she had a hand walker, two side walkers and someone in the back to make sure she was centered. The instructor was on one side telling Cindy what to do and to make her comfortable. One of the biggest things that can make a rider comfortable is how the horse moves and acts. Hank just being him self was perfect for Cindy. Cindy now rides Hank with just the instructor and a side walker and loves to trot on Hank. Cindy is now looking forward to riding Hank in the Top Hands show at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.

Molly

  • Breed: Quarter Horse
  • DOB: 1997
  • Sex: Mare

Molly was donated to us from Houston Farm and Ranch having been a roping horse. She is definitely quick and we had to settle her down and teach her to relax out here; she was a very uptight and nervous horse. Now she has settled down and is used in lessons with kids who need lots of physical stimulation ( because she is a quick mover).

Probably the first month we had Molly, she came up from the pasture with a massive gash on her pastern. It was deep enough that it needed stitches but was in a very difficult spot to have stitches. The cut was so deep we though she was going to lose her hoof. So we talked to the vet and got her a pain killer shot and started treating it without it getting it stitched up. It took several months of wrapping and dressing the wound to get it to heal. Now all that is left from that bed cut is a scar.

Squirt

  • Breed: Sicilian Donkey
  • DOB: 2004
  • Sex: Stallion

Squirt is a cute pain in the butt. He is awesome with the kids and appeals to them because of his small size. He pulls our little two person cart for those kids who are not physically able to ride. Squirt is always bugging the horses and getting cased by them.

Lady

  • Breed: Quarter Horse
  • DOB: 1980
  • Sex: Mare

Lady is by far our oldest horse but acts like a two year old! She is a retired Professional Barrel Racing horse who still has the energy to beat everyone. She is very gentle with the kids and is willing and loves to work. She is our most recent addition to out equine family.

One of our trainers, Amanda knew Lady through her friend, Brittany. Brittany had owned Lady for 6 years, when Brittany decided to join the Army. Brittany donated Lady to us because she would no longer have the time or money to keep Lady her own. Lady has been at the ranch now for a month and is doing great.

Sugar Booger

  • Breed: Registered Quarter Horse
  • DOB: 1992
  • Sex: Mare

Sugar is our best lesson horse. She came to us in January of 2007 as an all- around horse. She is very well trained and is always trusted with any of MGR independent riders. Sugar is the sweetest mare that is willing to do everything and only wants to please. We never have any behavior problem with her and never have anyone that does not fall in love with Sugar.

Recently, when Sugar had her hooves trimmed she was cut to short and went lame. Due to her lameness she got abscesses in both front feet which has caused her to be lame even longer. We did not know this is what it was when we spotted Sugar's hoof separating at her cornet band. We hauled her to the vet to find out what was going on. They told us about the abscesses and that she would need a special farrier come do her feet and have shoe for a while. Now Sugar is getting over her second abscess and is started to finally heal.

Moo Moo

  • Breed: Beef master/ Charlios
  • DOB: 2004
  • Sex: heifer

Moo Moo was found orphaned at 30 hours old; she was severally skinny and needed so much nutrition. Now, a few years later she is way over weight and a princess. Because she was raised with the horses and no other cows, Moo Moo really believes she is a horse, she is even ride able. All the kids love on her and Moo just soaks it up. She recently had her first calf, "PePe" the Mini Moo.

IN LOVING MEMORY OF IDEAL
(click on picture for photo gallery)

  • Breed: Clydesdale
  • DOB: 1989
  • Sex: Gelding

Ideal was donated to Morning Glory Ranch by Budweiser at the age of 15. He was our gentle giant who touched the hearts of everyone! Ideal pulled lots of our kids and staff in our 1947 wagon in numerous parades and field day outings. He loved giving hugs and followed us around like a big puppy dog. Ideal had a huge heart of GOLD and everyone felt it. Ideal taught many of the staff members how to drive the wagon and direct him at the same time. He would always be sure to give everyone their personal space to be sure he did not step on anyone by accident.

The first year of owning Ideal, Kim let a friend use him to teach their young Clydesdale, Hawk to pull. Ideal being older and wiser played with Hawk the whole way. Ideal stayed back in the harness and let Hawk do all the pulling. By the time the horses pulled back to the trailer Hawk was covered in sweat, while Ideal on the other hand was as relaxed and rested as he could be.

On July 24, 2007 our gentle giant, Ideal past away on the ranch in the arms of his loving caring owner Kim Mack. Ideal touched the hearts of many people and will be greatly missed!!
